I am not a location landlady, I am a hostess through and through

In conversation with our founder Kathrin M. Limburg

The most important question first: Where does the name Gebrüder Fritz come from, as you are almost all women?

The location in Charlottenburg was built in 1903 by three owners and their names were Christian, Carl and Heinrich Fritz. As my grandfather's name was Carl and those of my friends who helped me set up the business were Christian and Heinrich, the name Gebrüder Fritz was decided on immediately.

Who or what inspired you to found a company?

My mother has always had a love of large old apartments, beautiful things and interiors and was also self-employed. At the time, I was fearless on the right and believed in the idea and the concept, even though there was no double bottom or investor.

What makes your concept special?

I love being a hostess and to this day I see myself more as such than as a location landlady. Whether you come to our location or to my home, everyone should feel comfortable and be well looked after. That's why I describe our work less as a concept and more as my attitude to how I like to receive guests.

You always have new set-ups, where do you leave all the furniture?

I love change and I quickly get bored with the look of the rooms and need something new. That's why we often repaint and buy furniture for our collection, which makes it even easier for our customers to make our rooms their own. My great team then makes the furniture disappear just as quickly. To do this, we have stolen all our neighbors' cellars and have a large furniture warehouse in Lichtenberg.

What are your plans for the Gebrüder Fritz in the next few years?

The Gebrüder Fritz company is constantly evolving, because standing still is not an option for me. Since the company was founded, we have now opened four locations and an event agency. We already have big plans for 2025, so it will always be exciting.

Like all good stories, it all began by chance.

And suddenly there was an old building

In 2010, I was actually only looking for a small studio - it had to be an old building, because I grew up in old apartments with squeaky doors and creaky parquet flooring. I found an impressive 550 square meter gem of an old building in Schöneberg, which had probably remained undiscovered for so long precisely because of its condition.

A lover of old buildings like me couldn't let these rooms go. Combined with a touchingly fair rental offer, this made me an independent location landlady at the age of 28 - and a passionate hostess. When a major refurbishment was due in 2015 and all the tenants had to move out, I moved on. My passion had long since been kindled. So I founded the company Gebrüder Fritz with the next location in Charlottenburg.

Over the last ten years, Gebrüder Fritz has developed into something that has exceeded all my expectations. Out of love for the old building and events, the location was originally only intended as a nice balance to the work in our event agency. Today, it has become a home - with four locations and now 16 talented employees from the event, catering and interior sectors.

The most important thing for me, however, is that Gebrüder Fritz embodies values that set us apart from traditional events - and that we can be proud of. Our biggest goal is - and always has been - to inspire our guests and create exactly the kind of space that makes them feel comfortable and allows them to have a good time.
